About the Item

A very stylish Barnstaple, Devon art pottery streak glazed jug by Charles Brannam and dating from the early 20th century. This fine English hand-thrown pottery jug is made in terracotta clay and is of cylindrical shape with a wider skirted edged flat base with a slightly widened top rim with molded pouring spout. A large strap handle is applied to the top rim and rests on the lower body and is decorated with linear grooves. The jug has a wonderful thickly applied mottled green and blue glaze with elements of the hand thrown coil work showing through the glazed finish. With a natural glazed base and inner body with blue and white glazes running into the body, the jug has impressed makers marks for CH Brannam Barnstaple to the base. Provenance: UK Art Market. In good original condition.
