About the Item

A very fine sample of traditional Mexican silversmith work, an exceptional hammered brass and silver plate pitcher with mother-of-pearl inlays from Los Castillo Taxco. The pitcher is marked on the underside: TA-01, Hecha en Mexico, Los Castillo Taxco, Plateado. In addition there is a round stamp on the underside from Los Castillo Taxco = Antonio Castillo who is TA-01 In 1980, Mexico silversmiths initiated a letter and number system to register silversmiths. The first letter indicates the city and the second letter is the first letter of the silversmith's last name. The most common cities are Taxco and Mexico City. Examples: TA-01 is a piece made in Taxco by a silversmith who’s last name starts with an A. He who would be the first smith to be registered as TA in Taxco.
