About the Item
This antique English Ironstone jug showcases the enduring beauty and craftsmanship of early 19th-century British ceramics. Made from durable vitreous pottery, Ironstone was first patented in 1813 as Mason’s Patent Ironstone and quickly gained popularity for being “harder than earthenware and stronger than porcelain.”
The jug features a flowing, scalloped rim and an elegantly shaped handle, giving it a graceful silhouette. Adorned with a rich blue and white transferware pattern, the design includes floral motifs and architectural chinoiserie elements — possibly reminiscent of classic patterns such as Old Willow or Basket Japan. The intricate decoration covers both the interior and exterior, creating a striking visual effect from every angle.
Design:
The jug in the image features a distinctive blue and white transferware pattern, possibly a chinoiserie pattern like "Basket Japan" or "Old Willow," common on Ironstone pieces.

Masons Ironstone Jug or Pitcher in rare Cashmire Ptn, William 1Vth Ca 1833

s Ironstone
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good, Mason's ironstone hydra jug with a snake handle in the Cashmire De Thibet pattern dating to the William 1Vth English 19th century period, circa 1832-1836
The jug has an octagonal hydra shape with a snake handle.
This pattern is not often seen. It is called "Cashmire De Thibet" and is illustrated on page 60 of the book; A Guide To Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.
The jug is unmarked to the base as was sometimes the case, but is definitely by Mason's Ironstone as they were the only manufacturer to produce a jug in this shape with this pattern and dating to the English William 1Vth period circa 1832-1836.
Overall a very nice Masons Hydra Jug or Pitcher in a rare pattern.
Notes on the pattern.
This unusual name of "Cashmire De Thibet" was a name applied circa 1832-1836, to summer scarves...
