About the Item

A three piece glassware set made by Morgantown of West Virginia. The set consists of a Tijuana pitcher and two Double Old Fashioned glasses in Amethyst crinkle glass. Pitcher measures 6.5"W x 4.25"D x 6.5"H, glasses measure 3.75"H x 3.75"D x 3.75"H. Morgantown Glass Works began production in 1900 adjacent to the already successful Seneca Glass in Morgantown. By 1903, the company had grown to employ more than 400 and had developed significant glass exporting. The same year financial restructuring changed the corporate name to Economy Tumbler. After several other name changes, the company emerged in 1939 as Morgantown Glassware Guild. Production included colorful stem ware, artistic vases in an Italian freehand style, practical pitchers and tumblers, and stylish etched tableware. Elaborate hand-colored encrustations and brilliant glass colors were hallmarks of this successful firm. In the 1940s, Morgantown began production of Crinkle. New items were also added to the line and Crinkle was made in at least 25 colors. Morgantown Glass is most famous for producing the official White House crystal of John F. Kennedy, hand-chosen by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961.
