About the Item

A stunning mid-century French art pottery jug decorated in one of the most iconic colour combinations by renowned artist and ceramicist Pol Chambost (French, 1906-1983) and dating from around 1955. This stylish free formed jug is typical of the works for which Pol Chambost is most renowned. He combined colors and shapes to amazing effect which have today become highly cherished and collectable. The hand-thrown jug stands on a narrow round base with a widening body and large raised pouring spout with a simple ear shaped handle. What makes this jug is the bright yellow glazes which Chambost has applied to the inner body with contrasting satin black glazes to the outer body. These striking color combinations are immediately identifiable, and the jug has 'Poterie Pol Chambost’ incised to the base along with number 899. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. Offered in good original condition without loss or damage. There is some light rubbing associated with age and use.
