About the Item
A very stylish and decorative Swiss Thoune (Thun) majolika art pottery floral decorated jug dating from the latter 19th Century. The finely made terracotta bodied jug stands on a narrow round foot and is of wide rounded shape with a narrow funnel shaped neck and flat top with a long pointed pouring spout and flat top square angled handle applied to the side. The body of the jug is finely hand-painted with floral and stylized leaf design panels with fine floral detail around the neck and to the handle. The jug is painted in bright colors against a dark treacle glazed ground. The jug has an incised Thun mark to the base along with an Edelweiss floral mark and initials MC for Musée Céramique and is numbered 591/3.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition with light wear and very minor fritting associated with age and use.
