About the Item

Originally used to display a centerpiece on a buffet or table, this large late nineteenth century French Directoire style silver plate footed tray, or surtout de table, features a mirrored bottom and squared projecting corners adorned with palmettes. Its pierced gallery is detailed with columns and arches that form an arcade, and the apron below is finished with rosettes and a striated pattern. Measuring 17 inches square, this tray is sure to make a statement as a presentation piece. c. 1880.
