About the Item
Guatemala Block Thoronet Dish by Henry Wilson
Dimensions: W 24 x D 6 x H 33 cm
Materials: Green Guatemala marble.
Crafted in Porto, Portugal, the Thoronet Dish shares the name and elegantly austere arches of Provence’s Thoronet Abbey (L'abbaye du Thoronet).
In contrast to sand-cast bronze and aluminum versions, the Block Thoronet Dish, available in travertine and three types of marble, has a solid form – without a 'negative' aspect. The stone is left unsealed and its porous sections are left unfilled; together with a honed finish, this effects a pleasing appearance and tactility. Because of the qualities of natural stone, color, and veining will vary from one piece to another.
Henry Wilson's work combines a rational, democratic utility with an element of sculptural expression. There is a clear form and function in our products, but it’s important they also have feeling. We are interested in the awkward beauty that comes from something made by hand. We like to explore how imperfection can be introduced into an Industrial process, to make something at scale that retains a sense of individual charm.

Galerie Philia
Galerie Philia is an international contemporary sculptural design and art gallery representing emerging and established designers and artists. The gallery is the brainchild of two brothers who share a lifetime passion for art, literature and philosophy. Their distinct academic background sets them apart from their peers, as it sees them following a rhizomatic and transcultural approach in the way they select works. This involves combining elements from multiple cultures in what becomes a network of harmoniously interconnected roots, ultimately revealing the beauty of each unique creation. The gallery’s non-hierarchical curation sits apart from the ephemerality of trends and focuses instead on the true aesthetic quality of the piece – alluring and timeless. Unlike others, Galerie Philia does not focus on a single style – whether minimalist, organic or raw – but rather embraces heterogeneity. The Galerie Philia takes pride in discovering new talents, providing them with multiple international platforms to showcase their latest creations. As well as propelling the newest generation of 21st century collectible design, Galerie Philia also works with internationally known design artists. Galerie Philia has a strong international presence, with galleries in Geneva, New York and Singapore. In addition to their permanent spaces, the gallery organizes temporary group exhibitions and artists residencies in first-class locations around the world.

Robert Picault (1919 - 2000)
French ceramist in Vallauris
Robert Picault has contributed to the revival of culinary ceramics by updating traditional local forms decorated with lines and geometric designs.
His identity style has been a great success and continues to decorate the table today. His personal pieces are sought after by art collectors.
A former student of the School of Applied Arts in Paris, Robert Picault arrived in Vallauris in 1946. He created with his school friends Roger Capron (1922-2006) and Jean Derval (1925-2010), the Callis workshop.
In this village of a hundred potters, they met the neighboring ceramists André Baud, the 4 potters and among others the Madoura workshop, where he frequented the famous painter Picasso from 1949 to 1955. He also became friends with Jean Cocteau, Fernand Léger, Louis Aragon...
