About the Item
Vintage set of cups, saucers, and plates, total of 4 settings, was made in Deruta region of Italy for Peasant Village. It is hand painted with red Rooster pattern on speckled light gray background with red and black double rims. The plates and the cups have the rooster decor, and the saucers are done without the rooster, but with double rim accents only. All pieces have the traditional, heavier feel of Italian cafe style tableware; both plates and saucers have scalloped rims, and all pieces have patterned textured surfaces that add interest to minimal color palette.
Peasant Village used the traditional "Galletto", or Rooster, pattern in a very literal iteration in 1940s-1950s, with all colorful borders and additional decor elements that are expected of it; this set, however, is a more reserved, modernist version of the Rooster pattern that retains only the main element of the decor, and eliminates the patterned borders to streamline the appearance, making it more appealing for the Mid Century Modern aesthetics.
The pieces are hand signed on the bottoms with Italy, PV in circle, and decor number; one of the saucers is also signed with embossed Italy PV underglaze. The set is in good vintage condition with two saucers having fleabite losses on glaze on underside; please see pictures.
PV mark stands for Peasant Village, New York based import firm of Mittledorfer-Strauss, who used PV logo from 1928 through 1960s. Peasant Village pieces were made in several countries, including France, Italy, and even in the U.S. There is no way to tell which specific factory made these pieces, as the importer usually refused to allow any company names or logos to be used except their own; PV in circle mark is considered indicative of pieces made exclusively for Peasant Village.
Plate is 8.5" in diameter and 1" high.
Saucer is 6.57" in diameter and 0.75" high
Cap is 4.38" in diameter , 5.38" handle to opposite edge and 2.45 high.
There's one loss of surface on the plate and one on the saucer. Approximately 0.2" in size.

Richard Ginori Galli Rossi Roosters Porcelain Dinner Service, 86 pieces, 1960s
By Richard Ginori
Located in Firenze, IT
Exceptional 86-piece Richard Ginori “Galli Rossi” porcelain dinner service, handcrafted in Florence, 1960s, in immaculate and complete condition.
This is a rare 86-piece porcelain complete dinner service by Richard Ginori, handcrafted at the historic Doccia Manufactory in Florence between the 1960s and 1970s. The celebrated “Galli Rossi” pattern, one of the most iconic in Ginori’s repertoire, features stylised red roosters and floral motifs in warm Siena tones, delicately hand-finished with 24k gold trim and accents. Each piece, made of fine hard-paste porcelain with a scalloped, embossed edge that catches the light beautifully, exemplifies the refinement and excellence of mid-century Italian craftsmanship.
This extensive and iconic vintage fine porcelain tableware set is complete and perfectly preserved.
An extraordinary rarity, this porcelain dinner service is almost impossible to find today in such a comprehensive and immaculate condition.
Our set includes: 24 dinner plates, 12 soup plates, 12 dessert or fruit plates, 12 coffee cups with 12 saucers, one coffee pot, one sugar bowl, one milk jug, three oval serving platters, one round serving platter, one salad bowl, one soup tureen, two serving dishes, two cake stands, and one sauce boat. Every piece bears the “Richard Ginori - Manifattura di Doccia Florence Italy” backstamp, dating the service between 1965 and 1975, when Ginori successfully merged Tuscan decorative tradition with contemporary international taste.
The ‘Galli Rossi’ motif, first introduced in 1747, draws inspiration from Eastern aesthetics, chinoiserie and the 18th-century European fascination with the exotic. Its stylised roosters, delicate foliage, and refined palette reflect the cross-cultural influences that shaped Italian decorative arts of the period.
Depicting two roosters in a dynamic stance among stylised rocks and foliage, itts rich red and gold palette, combined with the sculptural basketweave texture, makes this set a true collector’s treasure.
This complete set is in perfect condition and has never been used, making it an exceptional find for collectors and connoisseurs of Italian porcelain
Discontinued in the 1980s, it remains highly sought after by connoisseurs and interior designers alike.
Beyond the dining table, the “Galli Rossi” pieces make a striking decorative statement. Displayed in a glass-fronted cabinet, on open shelving, or styled as wall art, their warm Siena tones and gold accents bring a touch of Florentine grandeur to any interior. Designers often pair them with antique linens, Murano glassware, or dark wood furniture to create a layered, timeless look that celebrates Italian heritage.
Perfect for elegant festive tables, refined dinner parties, or as a luxurious wedding or holiday gift, this Richard Ginori dinner service brings Italian heritage and sophistication to any setting. In excellent condition.
A rare opportunity to acquire a complete service in excellent condition, perfect for collectors or as a centerpiece in a refined dining room.
The sale price includes professional wooden-crate packaging for secure international shipping.
