About the Item

From the designer Georges Briard, and from the Pageant Fruit collection, a Peacock Blue glass serving tray with a corresponding glass dip bowl, circa 1960s. Georges Briard created his Pageant fruit collection during the 1960s. The glassware and serving pieces are considered Mid-Century Modern and often feature gilded fruit designs. A rectangular tray with teak handles tipped with brass fittings, the tray shows a parade of pears and apples outlined with wide gilded accents. Each fruit is adorned with a deep blue paisley-like pattern. The tray has a molded spot for holding the turquoise glass dipping bowl. The bowl is rimmed in gold. The tray is molded with upturned rims for holding canapés or crudités in place while serving. Georges Briard created award-winning designs for items including glasses, trays, coffeepots and dishes in materials like glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and gold-plated serveware. His serveware was especially popular from the 1950s to ’70s. It was produced by companies including Culver, Pfaltzgraff and Medina Glass and sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. Briard’s designs were found in the homes of the most fashionable hosts of the mid-century. Today, they are highly prized by collectors. Tray: 18.5 in. L x 8.25 in. W x 1.25 in. H Bowl: 4.75 inches in Diameter x 2 inches H Showing the Georges Briard signature in gold. In very good vintage condition.
