About the Item
Questo piccolo vassoio laccato su sfondo azzurro è stato realizzato a Venezia nel XVIII secolo. More precisely around 1750, at the height of the Louis XV period.
Features a shaped figure all around with flowering racemes figures drawn on the border.
In the center we find the figure of a cottage painted with plants and birds enclosed within a blue-painted rocaille frame.
With the naked eye and against the light, the presence of its creclé can be seen. Its dense texture is further indicative of 18th-century originality. Even from a view of the back of it, the originality of the wood of the time can be seen.
We find similar ones published within Venetians' lacquer manuals.
Epoch: 18th century, 1750s
Provenienza: Venezia
Material: lacquered wood
Style: louis XV
Its small size allows for its ubiquitous placement: either as an ornament and leaning against a plexigas dish rack or even hanging.

Venetian lacquer:
Lacquer indelibly stamped the artistic epic of eighteenth-century Venice until it became a dazzling and almost unambiguous symbol. Thanks to the astonishing inventive fertility and extraordinary executive skill of the "depentors" found happy application to an almost unlimited variety of objects, both luxury and everyday.
Note how in this object the affixing of images and decorations is done by direct painting without the use of so-called "maps," which are thin layers of paper already painted and then glued over the painted wooden base. A practice, the latter, in use especially in Bassano (Vicenza), an artistically flourishing town in Veneto, among other places the birthplace of great artists such as Jacopo da Bassano (1510-1592). The latter technique is the so-called and famous "arte povera."
Louis XV ( 1710 - 1774 )
Few sovereigns like Louis XV ( 1710 - 1774 ) have so powerfully embodied the spirit of an era. Having ascended the throne at only 5 years of age in 1715, after the impressive series of mournings that had characterized the last years of Louis XIV's reign, his rule was hailed as the beginning of a new golden age that followed the long twilight of the Sun King. The early years of the young prince's reign constitute a turning point, not only in France's political history, but also in its social and especially artistic history. The precipitous abandonment of Versailles by the court wished by the regent, Philip d'Orleans, brings Paris back to the center of aristocratic fashions and patronage. A new, more private and aristocratic approach of the country's elites marked the birth of a new decorative style that would be identified with the Regency. Within a few years what is called Louis XV or, more generically, Rococo, will be codified. The name comes from the use, as the oranmental element, of elements taken from nature such as precisely rocks. Others, however, are the characteristics that identify the new taste: a remarkable asymmetry of forms, soon to be corrected in the so-called rocaille symmetrisé, an elegant and light use of curved lines accompanied by often delicate colors and magnificent gilding, and a predilection for small, comfortable furniture. The interiors of the period, as they appear to us in paintings and engravings, are thus supremely elegant and sophisticated, yet at the same time comfortable and cozy. True translation into wood and textiles of the "sweetness of living" that was to characterize one of the most fascinating eras in the history of European costume, even when the curves of the rocaille-the king is now old-give way before the icy elegance of the new Greek taste.
