About the Item
This extremely rare charger -- with gold highlights and beautiful tonalities reminiscent of the work of Thomas Hart Benton -- was produced by the Cole-Merris Ceramics company in San Gabriel, California in the early 1940s. Founded by Bob Cole and Herb Merris, the company was included in "This is Contemporary Art," an exhibition sponsored by the Contemporary Arts Association in Houston in 1948.
