About the Item

A 19th Century Meissen Porcelain Group of a Woman Seated with a Bowl of Flowers and a Pet Goat. This finely detailed Meissen group depicts a young woman seated on a naturalistic base, adorned with Rococo-inspired scrollwork and gilded accents. She is dressed in a fitted bodice with purple ribbon lacing, a floral-patterned skirt with hand-painted blossoms in orange and green, and a white apron draped across her lap. Her delicately sculpted face features soft, rosy cheeks, and her golden hair is arranged in an elaborate coiffure, adorned with pastel-colored flowers and a blue ribbon. In her left hand, she holds a floral wreath intertwined with a lilac-hued fabric, while her right hand delicately lifts a flower from a shallow basket filled with hand-carved and painted blooms in shades of pink, yellow, and blue. A small goat, naturalistically rendered with finely textured fur, eagerly reaches up toward the flowers, adding an element of movement to the composition. The base is intricately decorated with a gilt and enamel border featuring stylized scrolls and floral motifs, enhancing the elegance of the piece. The Meissen porcelain company, founded in the early 1700s under the patronage of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony, was the first European manufacturer to produce true hard-paste porcelain. Known for its exceptional quality and elaborate designs, Meissen set the standard for porcelain production throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The company’s figurative groups, inspired by Rococo and pastoral themes, were highly sought after by European aristocracy. The present piece exemplifies the technical mastery and artistic refinement that defined Meissen’s output during the 19th century. Germany, Circa: 1870
