About the Item

19th Century Japanese Imari Temple Jar with Fluted Lid, Meiji Period Hand-Painted Porcelain A very fine 19th-century Japanese Imari temple jar, Meiji Period, beautifully hand-painted in the traditional Imari palette of deep cobalt blue, iron-red, and soft gilt accents. The jar features a graceful baluster shape and a fluted domed lid topped with a matching finial—an elegant form typical of high-quality Imari wares of the period. The decoration is exceptionally detailed, showcasing classical Japanese motifs, including ikebana-style floral arrangements, scrolling foliage, ribbons, and decorative balls. Each panel is painted with skill using natural overglaze enamels, giving the surface a warm, richly aged patina. This Meiji-era vessel is both decorative and functional; the jar may also be used as an elegant flower vase with or without its lid. Its scale and color palette make it perfect for traditional, Asian-inspired, or contemporary interiors.
