About the Item

A high degree of skill was required to produce reticulated porcelain in 19th century, with each piece painstakingly handcrafted to form a delightful pattern reminiscent of a garden trellis. These pieces were the most desirable and luxurious tableware, allowing the delicacies they contained to be displayed to their best advantage- grapes could cascade artfully, sweets glisten tantalizingly. This beautiful Neoclassical style antique centerpiece is of a classical round form with an elegant footed base. It is composed of two parts joined together by its original post. With a gilded scallop shaped rim, hand painted floral decoration in mauve pink and gold, each reticulated section accented in gold, on a flaring footed base with a wide mauve pink border highlighted with gold. Excellent condition commensurate with age, very light surface wear No evidence of repairs, chips or cracks noted. There is slight surface wear to the mauve pink decoration along the base, as shown in photos, all consistent with its age and use.
