About the Item

A fine antique English porcelain covered butter dish. By Worcester. Dating to the First Period or Dr. Wall Period (1753 - 1781). Comprising a butter dish with handled lid and an underplate. Decorated throughout with blue underglaze rose decoration and butterflies. All handles in the form of branches with porcelain flower and leaf accents. The lid with felt pads to 4 sides. With a crescent mark to the base. Simply a wonderful piece of antique 18th century Worcester porcelain! Date: 1753 - 1781 Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There are some firing flaws or cracks to the raised leaf/branch sections of the covered butter. Lacks one leaf by a side handle. The under plate lacks a flower at one handle, and a flower petal and part of a leaf chipped on the other handle. Otherwise, there are some fine light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Worcester Pattern Name: Rose Butterflies Marks: With a First Period crescent mark to the base. Measurements: Height: ca. 3 1/2 in. Width: ca. 6 in. Depth: ca. 4 in.
