About the Item

A charming and finely modeled antique Meissen porcelain figure from L series, it's a part of the Love Series which is done by Meissen factory depicting a winged Cupid poised in a gentle forward lean, his arms drawn behind his back as he gazes upward with a wistful expression. Rendered with exquisite attention to detail, the figure features delicately painted facial features—including soft blushed cheeks, defined brows, and red lips—imbuing the composition with warmth and subtle animation. Cupid’s finely feathered wings are accented in shades of lavender and white, complementing the molded quiver that hangs across his torso, suspended by a pale lavender strap. At his feet rests a large red heart nestled in a lush bed of green foliage and yellow blossoms, symbolizing the romantic theme at the heart of the composition. The leaves are crisply modeled with serrated edges and glazed in a range of verdant tones, offering a rich visual contrast to the smooth, speckled surface of the heart. The figure stands on a beautifully articulated two-tiered base. The upper portion is formed as a grassy knoll, with raised white ground interspersed with green enamel patches that suggest moss and flowering undergrowth. Below, the cylindrical lower tier is adorned with elegant marbleized decoration in gray veining on a white ground, bordered at both top and bottom with finely gilded bands. A final stepped and gilt-edged foot ring adds visual balance and a sense of grounded sophistication. This piece was produced by the renowned Meissen porcelain manufactory in Saxony and belongs to the celebrated Love Series—a well-documented group of allegorical figures exploring themes of romantic affection and desire. The underside features the iconic Meissen blue crossed swords mark, painted underglaze, confirming its distinguished factory origin. Additional incised and painted marks, including the model number “L 127” and a green-painted “53,” align with Meissen’s internal coding system used for decoration and production tracking. The refined modeling, luminous glazing, and overall construction are consistent with authenticated Meissen works 19th century, underscoring its quality and provenance. Rich in detail and poetic in expression, this figure captures the timeless elegance and emotional nuance for which Meissen is so highly regarded. Germany, circa second half of 1800s.
