About the Item

A rare and highly collectible set of porcelain and pure silver salt and pepper shakers designed and handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico by renowned artist Emilia Castillo. Part of her celebrated “Sol y Luna” collection, this pair features exquisite celestial motifs—one representing the radiant sun and the other the mystical moon, both rendered with Castillo’s distinctive silver inlay work. Each sculptural shaker is adorned with hand-applied sterling silver details, including starbursts, cosmic dots, and expressive celestial faces that highlight the whimsical yet luxurious nature of the collection. Their flared, organic forms give them a sculptural presence, making them as suitable for display as they are functional for the table. As with all of Castillo’s work, these pieces reflect her deep roots in the legendary Taxco silversmithing movement. Emilia Castillo is part of the iconic Los Castillo / Metales Casados family, one of Mexico’s most important design dynasties, known for blending traditional craftsmanship with imaginative mixed-media artistry. Her work continues this lineage, merging porcelain, pure silver, and handcraft techniques that Taxco is celebrated for. Both shakers are fully signed: “Emilia Castillo, Mexico, Plata” with one marked #19 and the other #16. Measurements (each): 3 in high (7.6 cm) 3 in wide (7.6 cm) 3 in deep (7.6 cm) A charming and sophisticated addition for collectors of Mexican silver, Taxco design, celestial-themed decorative arts, or anyone who appreciates Castillo’s poetic balance of luxury and whimsy.
