About the Item
Created by Jean Mayodon, one of the great masters of Art Deco porcelain and ceramics, this pale green decorated plate depicts the goddess Epona, the protector of horses, riding her steed. The lovely, translucent green and white glazes make it seem as if the viewer is seeing Epona through a pale green mist. This piece is dedicated to, or may have been commissioned by, Walter Baker or (Ammewalter Baker), and is dated 1937.
Mayodon created a great variety of ceramic pieces with mythological themes, usually gods and goddesses romping across the land or sea with great joy.
