About the Item

Exquisite Rococo love group in magnificent clothing: The noble gallant with a feathered hat and cloak sits on a rock next to a column with a handled vase, at the feet of his hesitant-looking beloved with an elaborate updo wig, who reaches out her hand to him, supported by the column, but looks away in feigned shyness, holding up the rose she had previously received. The group stands on an oval rock base with a gold-enhanced frieze decoration on the side and gold edges. Particularly elaborate, detailed and loving design and staffage. A successful representation of one of the bourgeois themes that had become popular in the course of the 18th century, for example, through the paintings of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805). Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kaendler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. He created a large number of groups in the Watteau style. In 1780 Acier was called to Dresden to become royal Saxon master modeler. Design of the model F 98 around 1778. Manufactory: Meissen Germany Dating: Around 1860 Material: White porcelain, glossy finish Technique: Handmade porcelain, finest hand painting Dimensions: Height: 23,5 cm / 9.25 in Width: 19,0 cm / 7.48 in Depth: 13,0 cm / 5.11 in Marks: Blue Meissen crossed sword mark pommels on hilts / First Quality Model number: F 98 / Former's number 51 / Painter's number 71 Bibliography: Thomas Sabine Bergmann, Meissen Artist's - Figures / Erlangen Germany 2014, Model numbers A1 - Z99, catalogue number 36 on page 38. Early Meissen Rococo Group Love and Indulgence by J.C. Schönheit, Ca 1840
By Meissen Porcelain, Johann Carl Schoenheit
Located in Vienna, AT
Exceptional Meissen porcelain genre group: Young mother seated on a magnificent Louis XVI-style armchair, her left foot set down on a low stool, a boy lying on his stomach on her left thigh, his white shirt slipped up to reveal his bare buttocks, which the mother has probably just struck with the cane in her left hand, to her right a girl in a dress and hat decorated with feathers, clasping her mother's arm so that she can no longer strike the boy. The group is based on an oval pedestal with gold heightened frieze decoration on the sides. Particularly elaborate, detailed design and staffage. This model was based on drawings by Johann Eleazar Zeissig, known as 'Schenau' (1737-1806). Designed by JOHANN CARL SCHÖNHEIT (1730 - 1805) in 1788 started working as an apprentice in the Meissen factory in 1741 and has been in a responsible position since 1768. For more than 20 years, Schönheit was an employee of both J.J. Kändler as well as from M.V. Acier, who entered the Meissen factory in 1762. After Kändler's death in 1775, Schönheit was head of the model department until 1794. Meissen Porcelain Revelry Groups
By Meissen Porcelain
Located in New Orleans, LA
This charming pair of Meissen porcelain figures celebrates the essence of Revelry. First modeled by the renowned Johann Joachim Kändler on bases by Peter Reinicke, circa 1767, these joyous groups depict musicians making merry by playing the French horn, flute, guitar and hurdy-gurdy, and gardeners carrying flowers in baskets and aprons. Two almost identical groups are featured in Meissen: Collector’s Catalogue by Laurence Mitchell. Figures by Kändler were especially popular and served as table decorations at courtly banquets. He took the reigns of the Meissen factory in 1733 and over the following 40 years created more than 900 models, many of which were considered the most important and beautiful ever produced. Many of his designs were so timeless and classic that they continued to be used well into the 19th century. Kändler was highly regarded especially for his allegorical representations and he was certainly at his best when designing the Four Continents...
