About the Item
The antique fine porcelain tray, catchall dish, dresser tray, or bowl features an abstract flower decor in gold, mocha brown, soft beige, and deep hunter green colors; the floral motif is placed on the pastel pink background along the sculptural, scalloped edge of the tray, with the rectangular gold on white vignette accenting the center of the piece. The outer surfaces are decorated with the floral motifs on the same pink background. The decor appears to be a variation of the iconic Dammouse pattern that was created by Edouard Dammouse, noted painter employed by Charles Haviland between 1876 and 1885 in Auteuil studio, as a multifloral pattern in 12 units, inspired by Japanese drawings and contemporaneous Japanism style. Delicate flower garlands complement textured piece, guiding the eye along the softly shaped rim without overpowering the piece. One can note Art Deco and Arts
Crafts influences in this version of the pattern.
The bowl is marked with underglaze green factory mark "H&C*/L", dating to 1876-1889, and red overglaze decorator mark "Haviland
C* Limoges", dating to 1876-1878 and 1889-1931. Overall, the marks date the tray to 1876-1889. This piece does not seem to be created for a specific distributor or a store.
The elegant form, high quality craftsmanship, and charming decoration will make the tray a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Victorian, Arts and Crafts, Transitional, Modern Country, Hollywood Regency, Art Deco, Glam, Collected, or Contemporary.
