About the Item

Italian Paris Porcelain Painted Plate Naples, circa 1825 An elegant Italian Paris porcelain painted plate, produced in Naples circa 1825, decorated with a finely executed scene of peasants in traditional costume from the village of Pietra Ferrazana. The subject belongs to the celebrated pictorial tradition initiated in the late 18th century under King Ferdinand IV of Naples, who commissioned the painters Alessandro D’Anna and Saverio della Gatta to travel throughout the Kingdom of Naples—then encompassing Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Apulia, Basilicata, and Calabria—documenting local customs, garments, and daily life. Their work, later continued by successive artists, resulted in a rich visual archive of regional culture. These drawings, watercolors, prints, and oils were subsequently adapted by the Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea and transferred onto porcelain services produced in the Paris style. This distinctive Neapolitan production, which began in 1783 and continued until around 1850, is known for its meticulous painting and faithful rendering of folkloric subjects. This plate, depicting regional figures from Pietra Ferrazana, is a classic and well-preserved example from that tradition, illustrating the refined artistry and ethnographic interest characteristic of Neapolitan porcelain of the period.
