About the Item

This is a bowl made with porcelaine called Imari ware. This style of porcelain is especially called Nabeshima ware -Kosen gama. This bow was made around 2000s in showa era. And on the bottom of this bowl, there are written 'Imari - Kosen'. Imari ware is a Western term for a brightly-coloured style of Arita ware Japanese export porcelain made in the area of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Kyūshū. They were exported to Europe in large quantities, especially between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. Nabeshima ware is a type of porcelain ware produced by the Nabeshima domain kiln, which was established in 1628 by 31 selected potters in the Arita and Imari areas, Saga Prefecture, as a project directly managed by the Saga Nabeshima domain in the early Edo period. (By Wikipedia) For about 250 years until the abolition of the domain in 1871, Nabeshima ware, which could only be used by shoguns and feudal lords, continued to produce porcelain masterpieces such as iro-Nabeshima "colored Nabeshima," sometsuke and celadon porcelain, and others as masterpieces of the finest quality. Later, the kilns became private kilns, and new potters joined to create the present Imari Nabeshima ware.
