About the Item

Large oval porcelain tray is hand painted with bouquet of roses in different shades of pink and decorated with asymmetrical gilded trim. The tray has unglazed bisque bottom; low wavy rim flows around the tray, creating a graceful, delicate shape. The tray is marked with "J.P./L. France" factory mark on the bottom; directly above it is another mark, probably of distributor, which is not readable. The use of "J.P./L. France" factory mark indicates that the piece was made in 1890-1902. In 1911 Pouyat factory merged with Guerin et Cie, creating "Anciens Etablissements J. Pouyat, Willian Guerin, et Cie", and in 1920 the company was taken over by Bawo Dotter Ltd, creating Guerin, Pouyat, Elite Ltd. Unfortunately, when the factory was closed in 1932, the archives and thousands of models were destroyed. The tray is 14.5" wide, 15.5" deep, and 1.5" high. It is in excellent antique condition; it might have been used for decoration only, as it has no signs of use and it was displayed mounted as a wall decor in private collector's home.
