About the Item

KPM or Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin hard-paste porcelain, the cup of rounded form with loop handle and integrated moustache guard, set against a saturated turquoise ground. A broad frieze of matte-tooled and burnished gilding—palmettes, acanthus scrolls, and beadwork—encircles the rim. To the front, an oval reserve within a finely tooled gilt frame depicts a winged putto striding with a scythe above a celestial globe bound by a zodiac band, a mid-century KPM neoclassical conceit linking Time and Love. The interior is entirely gilt. The matching saucer carries the same turquoise field and palmette border, its central medallion inscribed in sepia script Le temps s’envole; Votre amour est bien plus constant (Time flies; your love is far more constant), within concentric gilt rings. Underside with underglaze blue scepter mark of KPM Berlin and painted workman’s numeral in iron-red. Measurements: plate 5.5 in diameter; cup 3.125 in h x 2.75 in w x 3.75 in d.
