The extraordinary parrot can be identified as a Mealy parrot, the largest of the Amazonas found on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. They are distinuished from the Red-lored parrots by the absence of the red markings on the forehead and their large white eye ring. This classic Rosenthal porcelain has richly colored feathers in green, blue and red. It was a creation of the artist Fritz Heidenreich (1895-1966).
