About the Item

This large Japanese plate, with a diameter of about 47 cm, is made of hand-painted porcelain. The design is dominated by the white colors of the background, with blue and light blue designs typical of traditional oriental ceramics, giving the dish a delicate and refined elegance. The brim is slightly raised and shaped. The plate is decorated with a richly detailed composition, which develops in different reserves along the surface. Within these sections, natural and landscape motifs alternate: flowers with delicate petals, slender and slender bamboo trees, and fluffy clouds, which seem to float. A three-dimensional landscape, adding visual depth, suggesting distant hills and mountains trees and boats with sails in the wind. This specimen dates from the late 19th century, a period when Japanese porcelain art was particularly prized for its finesse, technique, and attention to detail. Porcelain is a particularly fine type of pottery, made using a special mixture, namely a mixture of clay, quartz, and a rock called kaolin, and fired in two stages, first at a lower temperature and later at a high temperature.
