About the Item

Rare large oval relief porcelain mirror: colourful oval lenses alternate with blue forget-me-not flowers, bordered on the inside by inwardly curved pink and turquoise hightened overlapping feather tips, and on the outside by a wide gold border decorated in the lower part with laurel leaves with berries and a bow in the centre at the bottom. At the top, the mirror is crowned by two winged cherubs wrapped in cloth, sitting opposite each other on the frame, holding the ends of a long garland of flowers, with the left one also holding a palm branch. Original old mirror glass with slight signs of age, original wooden panel on the back with vertical crack, screwed on from the front. Designed by ERNST AUGUST LEUTERITZ (1818-1893): He studied at the academy in Dresden, was a sculptor and from 1849 to 1886 he held the position of head of design at the Meissen porcelain manufactory, and in 1882 he became professor. He worked on vessel shapes and figures from the 18th century and designed vases, centerpieces and candlesticks in the styles of Rococo and Classicism. Design of model Z 79 circa 1851.
