Meissen most remarkable figurine group: Allegory of Europe/ model deriving from a series once made for Russian Czarina Elizabeth Petrowna (1709-1762) Measures/dimensions: Height: 26.0 cm (= 10.23 inches) Width: 28.0 cm (= 11.02 inches) Depth: 21.0 cm (= 8.26 inches) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed) First quality Dating: Mercolini period 1775-1814/made circa 1772-1780. Material: Porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: Handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Modelled by: Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1749) Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) Model designed 1746-1747: It had once been made by order of Elizabeth Petrowna (1709-1762) of Russia (she was czarina of Russian empire until the year 1762). Czarina Elizabeth ordered Meissen porcelain of highest value having been destined to decorate Royal Dinner Table: This bulk order included various figurines' series such as Allegory of Four Seasons, Allegory of Five Senses as well as Allegory of Four Continents/related models were created by Johann Friedrich Eberlein. Johann Joachim Kaendler reworked Eberlein's models in year 1771 / the new pulls were edited in July 1772. Detailed description: Allegory of Europe (part of series of four continents) 1) Europe clad in mantle decorated with precious jewels has sat down on a pedestal - regent crowned woman seizes sceptre and imperial orb. Additionally, some interesting items are collected around Europe: A globe, a marble bust, a palette, books, a sheet with music notes as well as items for technical drawing (ruler and a pair of compasses) are visible. 2) A white horse of stunning appearance stands behind Europe / a Roman armour has been laid below the white horse. Caused by these items mentioned above we have to assume that Europe is Minerva - the defender of sciences and fine arts having shed the Armour (= in ancient times Minerva was Goddess of Wisdom, of Fine Arts as well as of Tactical Warfare, further she was guardian of shipbuilding and of knowledge).
