Meissen Rarest Figurine Group: Hercules and the Queen of the Amazons, deriving from a series once made for Russian Czarina Catherine the Great Modeller: Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706 - 1775) OR Michel Victor Acier (1736 - 1799) Design made before 1774 / this model had most probably been manufactured for decoration of one of castles once owned by Czarina Katharina 2nd (1729-96) who was as from the year 1762 until her death in 1796 female ruler of Russian Empire, having become famous then for her excellent reign as well as for her love of Fine Arts: It is documented that Czarina Katharina the Great had ordered fourty Meissen Groups in period 1773 - 75 which means that this was one of most comprehensive orders having ever been handled by Meissen manufactory. Size: height: 18.50 inches (= 47.0 cm) depth: 9.05 inches (= 23.0 cm) width: 10.62 inches (= 27.0 cm) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark First quality Dating: middle of 18th century (Rococo Period) / made circa 1770-73 = Pre-Marcolini Period! Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Detailed description: Hercules and the Queen of the Amazons This exceptional as well as huge Meissen figurine group has a pyramid-shaped appearance / additionally, the basic structure is of special form type - namely double arm - so that it can be assumed that this figurine group had been intended for positioning in a corner of a castle's chamber. This Meissen item is not only of rarest shape but it is of finest manufacturing quality comprising stunningly modelled sculptured figurines: The pyramid-shaped structure with rocks abundantly decorated with flowers' blossoms and leaves is these figurines' stage. There is the bare-breasted as well as crowned Queen of the Amazons - Hippolyte - topping the figurines' group / the classical hero Hercules has taken place in middle area, supporting himself on his club / finally, there is a defeated warrior visible at area below, lying face down on the rock (= there had been a battle between Heracles' companions and the Amazon Ladies). A most remarkable detail is the spring gushing out of the rock. Please note: This figurine group consists of three sculptured parts which are removable, whereby these parts are manufactured as sculptures matching up / fitting to each other ! Condition: Very good (there aren't any damages existing / a very few small as well as excellently made restorations have been done - not visible with naked eye).
