Meissen stunning table clock: Sculptured Figurines = Cherubs / Cupids on top piece (Allegory of Water) The details are excellently scupltured = finest modelling ! Hallmarked: Meissen Blue Sword Mark with Pommels on Hilts (glazed bottom) Style: Neo - Rococo / Rococo Revival FIRST QUALITY Made circa 1880 DESIGNED BY: ERNST AUGUST LEUTERITZ (1818 - 1893) / modelled c.1865-75. Leuteritz was sculptor, having been born as well as active in Meissen, since the year 1882 Professor as well as leader of Meissen Art Department as from the year 1886. Leuteritz modelled at least 230 figurines - for this reason he was the most important Meissen modeller of third and fourth quarter of 19th century. (Thomas Bergmann 2010, page 665) Specifications: -- There are TWO SCULPTURED CHERUB FIGURINES OF MOST LOVELY APPEARANCE ATTACHED TO CLOCK'S TOP PIECE AS WELL AS ROCAILLE DECORATIONS FRAMING THE CLOCKFACE existing. -- Two cherubs are visible on top piece: A winged cupid situated on a little rock is going to do some entries into a book whereas a cherub having sat down on clock's pedestal seizes a mill wheel en miniature / additionally, there is a pot of amphora type from which water is pouring out attached to middle area: For this reason it has to be assumed that we have an ALLEGORY OF WATER here. -- The CLOCKFACE is framed with golden painted ornaments (= acanthus scrolls, Rocaille ornaments, stylized leaves). -- A painting situated below of clockface is existing - it depicts three cupids floating in air - they are spreading rose flowers' blossoms = IT IS SIGN OF LOVE ! -- The CLOCK'S WALL is decorated with various golden painted ornaments (= acanthus scrolls, Rocaille ornaments, stylized leaves) . -- The TABLE CLOCK is based on four massive feet shaped as Rocaille volutes. -- PORCELAIN CLOCKFACE with BRASS FRAME TWO HANDS (FOR HOUR AS WELL AS FOR MINUTE) LATIN (ROMAN) NUMERALS VISIBLE KEY IS EXISTING. Size: height: 18.89 inches (48.0 cm) / width: 9.44 inches (24.0 cm) / depth: 7.08 inches (18.0 cm) Condition: VERY GOOD / there aren't any damages existing. The clock's mechanism is working. Key is existing.
