Meissen most remarkable as well as rare figurine: Walking Pierrot attached to square base Measures / Dimensions: height 13.77 inches / 35.0 cm measures of base: 3.93 x 4.33 inches / 10.0 x 11.0 cm. Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (glazed bottom) First quality Dating: 20th century Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted model number 73568 (= vintage model number Y 164) painter's number 547 former's number 45 year's sign 1991 Technique: handmade porcelain Modelled by: Martin Wiegand (1867-1961) Model Y 164 (73568) Created 1906-1909. Martin Wiegand was a German sculptor and modeller / he had studied at Dresden Academy. He worked as freelance artist in Munich from 1888, further he possessed a studio in Nymphenburg. The sculptor was active for Meissen manufactory in period 1906-1909: The manufactory acquired twelve genre figures and a series of four centaur groups (Bergmann 2010). Detailed description: Walking Pierrot Figurine with hands hidden in trouser pockets, having a tophat en miniature on head. Pierrot's cheeks are red-painted - like his nose tip. A very remarkable feature is the large multi-radial yellow sun visible at frontside of pierrot's white gown with violet collar / additionally, crescent of the moon with stars are painted on backside of figurine's gown. Pierrot is based on square socle.
