About Meissen and the Vine-Leaf Pattern (“Voller grüner Weinkranz”):
Founded in 1710, Meissen Porcelain was Europe’s first porcelain manufactory and for more than 300 years has been synonymous with masterful craftsmanship and artistic innovation. The manufactory quickly became famous for breaking China’s monopoly on porcelain and set the standard for European porcelain art.
Among Meissen’s most iconic patterns is the Vine-Leaf Pattern, in German “Voller grüner Weinkranz,” introduced around 1817 by Johann Samuel Arnhold. The motif is decorated with green vine leaves and trailing tendrils in underglaze, often combined with elegant hand-painted details and flowing forms.
This pattern quickly became one of Meissen’s most popular and continued to be produced well into the 20th century. The Vine-Leaf Pattern represents the manufactory’s fascination with nature’s ornamentation, and with its combination of classic design and lively brushwork, it expresses the timeless aesthetics that have made Meissen an international symbol of European porcelain tradition.
