About the Item

Meissen, 6 small plates, Vine-Leaf Pattern, “Voller grüner Weinkranz” Set of 6 small plates from Meissen, decorated in the classic Vine-Leaf Pattern (“Voller grüner Weinkranz”) with green vine leaves and tendrils in underglaze. The elegant scalloped rim frames the decorative border and creates a timeless whole. Manufacturer: Meissen, Germany Pattern: Vine-Leaf Pattern / “Voller grüner Weinkranz” Period: 20th century Material: Porcelain, underglaze green decoration Dimensions: D. 13.5 cm Condition: In fine condition. Second quality Marking: Blue crossed swords under the base About Meissen Second Quality: Porcelain marked as second quality (Zweite Wahl) still bears Meissen’s original crossed swords mark but has been designated as second quality by the manufactory. Such pieces may show minor and insignificant irregularities in shape or decoration, yet they remain fully functional and hand-painted by the manufactory’s artists. A classic example of Meissen’s long tradition of hand-painted porcelain, where inspiration from nature combines with the manufactory’s renowned quality. About Meissen and the Vine-Leaf Pattern: Founded in 1710, Meissen Porzellan was Europe’s first porcelain manufactory and quickly became famous for its unrivalled craftsmanship and artistic innovation. Among its many iconic patterns is the Vine-Leaf Pattern, in German Voller grüner Weinkranz, introduced around 1817 by Johann Samuel Arnhold. The decoration of green vine leaves and winding tendrils became one of Meissen’s most popular designs and continued into the 20th century. The pattern reflects the manufactory’s fascination with natural ornamentation and the precise hand-painted expression that has made Meissen a symbol of European porcelain tradition.
