Meissen gorgeous huge group of Gardener Figurines making music (GARDENER MUSICIANS) assembled around a tree height: 49 cm ( = circa 19.6 inches ) diameter of base: 22 cm ( = circa 8.8 inches ) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed) FIRST QUALITY model number D 96 Dating: made circa 1870 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo, designed by Michael Victor ACIER (1736 - 1799) / modelled circa 1772 SPECIFICATIONS: There are SEVEN FIGURINES gathered around a leafy tree existing: Six human ones making music or dancing and one animal. - a lovely dancing couple is situated at frontside - in front of rock - at top of mentioned rock there is a couple making music visible: The woman plays the hurdy-gurdy / her male companion holds bagpipes. - a couple has sat down at backside of rocky base: They are busy with having a meal - the woman seizes a plate with bakery products whilst the man pours red wine into a beaker held by his female companion. - a lovely dog supporting itself at rocky base watches the musicians situated at top of rock. The figurine group is based on round support with golden painted frieze decoration. All figurines are dressed in finest Rococo garments which details are excellently worked / look for example at the men's jackets and vests or at the women's gowns, further at the figurines' handsome features and note, please, the elegant impression of ensemble deriving from HIGHEST QUALITY OF MODELLING ! This charming pair of Meissen porcelain figures celebrates the essence of Revelry. First modeled by the renowned Johann Joachim Kändler on bases by Peter Reinicke, circa 1767, these joyous groups depict musicians making merry by playing the French horn, flute, guitar and hurdy-gurdy, and gardeners carrying flowers in baskets and aprons. Two almost identical groups are featured in Meissen: Collector’s Catalogue by Laurence Mitchell. Figures by Kändler were especially popular and served as table decorations at courtly banquets. He took the reigns of the Meissen factory in 1733 and over the following 40 years created more than 900 models, many of which were considered the most important and beautiful ever produced. Many of his designs were so timeless and classic that they continued to be used well into the 19th century. Kändler was highly regarded especially for his allegorical representations and he was certainly at his best when designing the Four Continents...
