About the Item

Jean Luce Paris white porcelain six coffee cups and saucers Circa 1950 decorated with initials in black in a sleek typography. JEAN LUCE (1895-1964), a member of the UAM movement, worked on the balance between form and function in the glassware and ceramics he produced for his Paris shop, for Compagnie Générale Transatlantique liners and for the Sèvres factory. Jean Luce's constant concern was for purity, refinement and rationalism. These Jean Luce cups are a perfect example of his style, with their light, linear graphics. In white porcelain decorated with the black Y or V PM monogram, we also offer a table service for six people (to be listed shortly). One could use the initials to dream about the city names they would love to visit as if you were on ship liner or the Orient Express like Venise Paris Montecarlo! Each piece stamped Jean LUCE France and Thomas Germany on the reverse. No cracks, hair, no chips, in near new condition. Dimensions: coffee cups D6.7xH6 cm and saucers D12xH1.5 cm Thomas Germany is part of Rosenthal and was located close to the French border. JEAN LUCE used it as he used Arzberg and all the major French factories. A superb, comprehensive book has just been published on Jean LUCE ‘le Renouveau de la table française 1910-1960’ by Sung Moon Cho, Norma Editions (Musée des Arts Décoratifs) .
