Franciscan by Gladding McBean El Patio Jug Carafe w/ Lid, Sea Mist Green 1930s
By Franciscan China 1, Gladding, McBean
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage Art deco style carafe or jug with lid features simple, clean design, the iconic “pretzel” shaped cup handle, and high gloss turquoise glaze. It's a part of El Patio line, attributed to Mary Grant, the first dinnerware line produced by Gladding McBean under their Franciscan Pottery division in 1934. The glaze color, Glacial Blue, is one of the first 8 glaze colorways for the line. El Patio line had three versions of the carafe – one with a wooden handle, one with a ceramic handle, and another with a metal holder; this carafe has the build-in ceramic handle, resulting in streamlined, monochromatic look. The carafe is marked on the bottom with the oval GMCB mark that was in use from 1934 to 1938. The mark dates the piece to the earliest years of the production of El Patio, one of the five most important California solid colored dinnerware lines of the 1930s, alongside Pacific Hostessware, Bauer Ringware, Metlox 200 Series, and Vernon Kilns Early California. The Gladding, McBean Company, one of the biggest potteries in Southern California, was founded in 1875 in Lincoln, California. In 1934 the company began the manufacture of dinnerware and art ware under the trade name Franciscan Ware...

12 Royal Doulton “Shakespeare’s Country” Cabinet Plates by J. Hughs C. 1902-22
By Royal Doulton, Ovington Brother At New York
Located in Atlanta, GA
Set of Twelve Royal Doulton “Shakespeare’s Country” Artist-Signed Scenic Plates by J. Hughs, for Ovington Bros., New York, Circa 1902–1922 A rare and complete set of twelve hand-painted cabinet plates by Royal Doulton, produced between 1902 and 1922, each executed in finely detailed enamel and individually signed by the artist J. Hughs, one of the factory’s most accomplished landscape decorators. Commissioned for and retailed by Ovington Bros., New York, this series belongs to the celebrated “Shakespeare’s Country” theme, depicting landmarks and literary sites associated with William Shakespeare and the pastoral beauty of Warwickshire. Each plate is masterfully painted with a distinct English scene—castles, chapels, cottages, bridges, and village landscapes—capturing the romantic vision of early 20th-century England. The painterly approach, with soft-focus skies and layered perspective, reflects the Edwardian taste for sentimental and historicist views, executed here with remarkable skill. The scalloped rims are enriched with elegant raised gilt scrollwork, adding a regal finish to each composition. Titles include: Anne Hathaway’s Cottage...

Three Large Pieces of American Diplomatic Porcelain "Fitzhugh 1815" with Eagle
Located in MOUGINS, FR
Three rare pieces of "Fitzhugh" decorated porcelain, probably from the early 20th century, marked "1815" on their base and bearing the American eagle and the "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Similar models are in the White House and have been used as diplomatic gifts and in the Embassies of the United States of America. Provenance: This set comes from the Domaine de Beaumont in Valbonne, built in the 1920s for the Carr family, and in which the Kennedys spent several summers when JFK's father was Ambassador in London (1938-1940) and after the war. Dimensions: Rectangular box: Length 21cm, Depth 10.5cm, Height 10cm Covered vase: Height 27cm, Diameter 26cm Round box: Height 12cm, Diameter 22cm. These three pieces are "decorated with a pattern called 'Fitzhugh,' which refers to a group of Chinese export porcelain with certain identifying characteristics, made between about 1780 and 1840. The decorative elements in this group include a central device—a medallion, an eagle, a monogram, or a coat of arms—surrounded by four clusters of flowers and emblems associated with the four achievements of the Chinese scholar: music, painting, analytical ability, and calligraphy. The whole is surrounded by an elaborate border, either a lattice and spearhead border, often called 'Nanking,' or an intricate design of butterflies, cellular layers, and floral motifs. Some examples that fall into this group, such as George Washington's Cincinnati porcelain, do not feature the four floral and emblem groups. The clusters and borders may be painted in blue, brown, orange, green, yellow, pink, lavender, gold, black, or gray. Fitzhugh patterns appear to have been more popular with Americans than with the English, reflecting the rise of American merchants at the time. Consequently, there is more variation in Fitzhugh china...
