About the Item
Magnificent decoration of hand painted and decorated flowers. Pure gold border
Signed by D. Bruschi
Having seen the signature and the quality of the execution, they can be prudently attributed to Domenico Bruschi (Perugia 1840 - Rome 1910) Italian painter and decorator.
Together with the contemporary Annibale Brugnoli, he was the protagonist of the artistic environment in post-unification Perugia, frescoing, among others, Palazzo Cesaroni.
After a brief period of apprenticeship in England between 1862 and 1868, he moved to Rome where he also collaborated with Cesare Mariani at the Palazzo della Consulta (1870-1871). A few years later he became friends with Nino Costa and entered his artistic circle. In the capital he held the role of master of ornamental design, presiding over the Academy of San Luca.
Bruschi began his artistic activity in Perugia in 1857, when he was engaged in the decoration of the chapel of San Giuseppe in the church of San Pietro. After his return from England he frescoed, in 1869, the chapel of the Rosary in the right aisle of San Domenico di Perugia. His first important work, which gained him great fame, were the frescoes in the provincial council hall in the Palazzo della Provincia and the Prefecture of Perugia. In the years 1876-1877 he decorated the chapel of Sant'Onofrio. Also in Perugia, and in 1880 the facade of the bishop's palace. In 1886 he frescoed the Cappella dei Conti Bufalari in the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Lugnano in Teverina.
In 1901 he painted the frescoes of the Oratorio Annunziata in Perugia, with episodes from the New Testament and other biblical scenes, where in the representation of Anna he is a self-portrait of him.
One of Bruschi's most successful enterprises dates back to 1875 and is the decoration of the chapel of the Crucifix to the Holy Apostles in Rome [1].
He had 6 children: Carlo Bruschi, Alfredo Bruschi, Vittoria Bruschi, Amalia Bruschi (Painter, 1863-1946), Anna and Luigia.
