Iconic and historic Medici vase with a square base; it was made in France from white porcelain, inspired by the famous Medici Vase The Medici vase is one of the best-known ancient art objects; the ancient specimen of Neo-Attic origin, was found and inventoried in the Villa Medici in Rome, from where it got its name, today it is kept in the Uffizi Museum in Florence; the exceptional decoration that fills the entire central part of the vase is entirely hand-painted, and the artist has executed the depiction with meticulousness and skill, taking care of the entire work down to the smallest detail; on one side is a bucolic rural landscape with trees and farmhouses on the shores of a tranquil mountain lake; on the opposite side the artist has painted two cows and three goats, one of which is being milked by a young peasant girl; the square base, part of the central area and the handles are finished with the application of pure gold; each handle is supported by two satyr heads. The vase was made between 1820 and 1829 at the height of the French Restoration in a craft workshop in the vicinity of Paris by master artisans respecting ancient traditions and the raw material (kaolin). Old Porcelain Paris or Vieux Paris is the term given to the elaborate hard-paste porcelain products created in Paris from the mid-1700s to the late 1800s. Vieux Paris is a generic term because there were more than 30 factories producing porcelain during this period. Sometimes these factories sold "blank," unpainted pieces to outside artisans, so it is possible to see identically shaped pieces with different painting styles. For this reason, most Vieux Paris pieces are unattributed, which means that there are generally no maker's marks. From the discovery of kaolin, a material needed for the manufacture of porcelain, porcelain factories, also called manufactories, multiplied throughout France and of course in Paris. Most of these manufactories worked in the 18th century under the protection of a member of the royal family, such as the Count of Provence, future Louis XVIII, who protected the Clignancourt Manufactory. However, during the 19th century, numerous pieces bore no hallmark. It was therefore almost impossible to attribute them to particular Parisian manufacture, hence the expression "Porcelain de Paris" or "Vieux Paris," which encompasses all these different productions. The absence of the mark would indicate an inferior product, but in fact, Paris porcelain is usually of superb quality. On par with more emblazoned productions such as Sevres Meissen! The vase is in good condition; the painting is perfect; on the base, in the part where it joins the vase, the porcelain is a little chipped (see photo) but this small defect is aesthetically very little visible; under the base, there are rust drippings due to oxidation of the metal framework that holds the parts of the vase together, which is under the base are irrelevant to the aesthetic purpose; in some parts, the pure gold appears worn, but this makes the object much more fascinating and historically interesting. Measures width cm.20, depth cm.20, height cm.28, base measures cm.11 x11.
