About the Item
A delightful Art Nouveau Royal Worcester shell shaped porcelain pin dish mounted with a freshwater turtle dated 1906. The dish is formed as an open clam shaped shell with a flat base and raised sides with a young turtle climbing into the shell at the lower end. The dish is decorated in brown and ivory satin glazes applied over a cream-colored body with a glazed base and is embellished with gilded outlines. The turtle is decorated with a gilded finish over a red ground with red elements in the well patterned shell and body and with red eyes. The dish has a puce printed maker’s mark to the base and is numbered 928 and has date code marks dating the dish to 1906. A very finely made example.
Provenance: From a fine collection of Worcester porcelain, acquired in the British art market.
In good used condition with light gilding rub around the top rim.
