About the Item
A scarce and delightful pair Royal Worcester porcelain Chinaman figures made as part of a Down
Out series of figures produced as menu holders in 1874. The figures stand on a shaped block work patterned base and wear heavy worn black shoes with an open collar tunic style shirt over loose fitting trousers with both wearing Chinese style hats and scarves tied around their necks. The figures are of slightly differing shape and size and are hand similarly painted although one with a blue top and the other with a grey painted top. Both have impressed Royal Worcester marks along with diamond registration marks dating the figures to 1874.
Provenance: acquired from the British Art market.
In good condition with rubbing to the shoes, but probably part of the design.
