About the Item
Cup and saucer in the style of Chantilly porcelain, bearing faux Chantilly marks, attributed to the Samson manufactory, Paris, 19th century. The decoration is hand-painted in the "Décor Barbeaux" pattern, consisting of scattered cornflowers (Centaurea cyanus) and other botanical elements.
The Barbeaux décor was originally developed by the Sèvres Manufactory in the late 18th century for Marie Antoinette, reflecting a preference for naturalistic floral designs associated with the Queen’s taste. This style was used primarily on hard-paste porcelain produced at Sèvres beginning in the 1780s.
The form and decoration of the cup and saucer closely follow the late 18th-century models, with gilded accents applied to the rim and handle.
The cup stands 6 cm high; diameter 5,5 cm (ex the ear) . Both pieces exhibit signs of wear consistent with age.
Pseudo mark Chantilly in red.
Factory mark Samson in gold.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with very minor wear; no visible chips or cracks.
