About the Item

This set of 12 dessert plates is a fabulous example of the artistry of the Aesthetic Movement. Each plate is hand-painted in shades of raised paste gold, silver, green and apricot gilt and framed in a intricate latticework border trimmed in gold. The fruit theme is carried out on each one with varying foliage, butterflies and insects typical of the Japonesque design. These would create a show-stopping display and can be used as dessert plates as well. What a dramatic setting these would create. These are marked only with pattern numbers but they are clearly English and mid to late 19th century. One plate had been repaired along the border but is still perfect for display and the other 11 are in excellent condition commensurate with age.

Repaired: One plate had been repaired along the border but is still perfect for display and the other 11 are in excellent condition commensurate with age. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. 11 all in great condition and one with a repaired rim (images 7 8). Fine for display, otherwise excellent, commensurate with age.
