About the Item

A Set of Ten Antique Japanese Imari Porcelain Shallow Bowls. This set of fine porcelain china is decorated in three firings. The first firing in light and dark under glaze cobalt blue of a three segment floral medallion on center with a surround band of a floral diamond pattern, then more cobalt blue for the octagonal honeycomb band near the rim and the floral vines on the exterior sides finished with a four sided maker’s mark on the center of the base. The second firing with a complex over glaze enamel pattern in three sections of fan shaped reserves containing designs of purple, yellow and green flowers, butterflies and clouds on a purple, green and blue wavy floral pattern radiating from the center with white over glaze tortoise and crane medallions (symbols of longevity). The third firing is with the red and gold luster highlight details overall including the scalloped and peaked rim. Condition: Excellent with minor rubbing and scratching of the gold in places Size of each: 6.125 in. in diameter x 1.625 in. high. (15.5 x 4cm) Weight of each: 9.4 oz. (269g.)
