About the Item

Antique porcelain tray with rounded handle features a hand painted decor of small bird, sitting on a branch with leaves and purple berries. The background is done in soft pastel colors, suggesting open air and more branches behind the main motif. The rounded handle is gilded, and the rim is accented with a thin gold band. The tray is marked with green overglaze stamps "T V Limoges France" and "Longchamps" on the underside; the mark was in use from 1891 to 1907. It has a faint signature of the artist in black, also on the underside. The convenient size allows the piece to be used not only as a serving dish, but also as a small catchall tray, a shallow candy dish, or as a part of table decor. The elegant form, high quality craftsmanship, and charming hand painted decoration will make the tray a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Victorian, Transitional, Modern Country, Glam, Collected, or Contemporary. Tressemanes Vogt was a porcelain factory, founded by Gustave Vogt and Émilien de Tressemanes. Their partnership began in 1882, when they acquired the Limoges-based decorating firm, founded in the 1850s by John Vogt. The factory produced high-quality whiteware and decorated porcelain for the American export market. Tressemanes retired in 1907, and Vogt became the sole owner, changing the company name to Porcelaine Gustave Vogt; in 1919 Martial Raynaud acquired the company.

Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Arts Crafts Landscape Cup Saucer, 1882-1891
By Haviland Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
The antique set of cup and saucer was created by Charles Field Haviland and hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio. The rare, hand to find blank features a streamlined flat cup form with a sculptural detailed handle. The artist painted 3 different landscapes of lakes or large rivers, surrounded by hills with lush vegetation; 2 of the landscapes include small boats on the water. The highly detailed, beautifully executed landscapes are prominently placed on the bottom and the side of the cup and in the center of the saucer and framed with gold trim, with crisp white color of semi-translucent porcelain serving as a matting. The rims and the handle are accented with gold trim. The pieces are marked with the green underglaze CFH/GDM marks, dating to 1882-1891, and overglaze artists initials in gold. The set is in very good antique condition with minimal wear on gold that is appropriate to its age. We are offering a set of sugar bowl and creamer, decorated by the same artist with the landscape views in the same style, and most possibly a part of the same service, in a separate listing. The advent of Arts and Craft Movement created the notion that the aesthetic quality of everyday utilitarian objects could be improved by merit of craftsmanship, and many painters and artists felt inspired to merge their activities into decorative arts, such as ceramics, decor objects, or dinnerware. Large number of wholesale and retail firms, such as Pickard, Stouffer, or Brauer studios, and many high-end department stores that carried factory decorated Limoges's porcelain, had their own china decorating departments and produced high quality hand painted porcelain. Undecorated Haviland china...
