About the Item

A beautiful and unique ceramic plate designed by Birger Kaipiainen for Arabia in Finland in the late 1950s - 1960s. The plate features a purple ananas filled with four-leaf clovers, with additional clovers arranged around the edge of the dish. A whimsical and cheerful motif with Kaipiainen’s characteristic elongated form. The colors are vibrant, and the piece is in good condition. Although unsigned, it is unmistakably the work of Kaipiainen. An old price label with the initials BK remains on the back. Complimentary shipping is offered. Birger Kaipiainen (1915–1988) was a master of decorative ceramics, known for his richly detailed and colorful ornamental designs. His work often incorporated motifs such as fruits, women, butterflies, flowers, and birds, frequently embellished with small beads. As one of the leading figures in mid-century Finnish ceramics, Kaipiainen spent a long and celebrated career at Arabia Oy, where he was given remarkable creative freedom. His style evolved over the years into a more surreal and expressive direction, and he remains one of Finland’s most revered designers. Among his many recognitions is the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1951.

Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) was the master of decorative ceramics at the Arabia factory in Finland. He was well known for his ornamental dishes that were rich, colourful and with themes from the fantasy world and fairytales, which actually fought against the idealism of the minimalistic movements in 1950s. Kaipiainen introduced ceramic beads to his art in the 60s' and the surface of the object became more important for Kaipianen´s art. This beautiful unique ceramic plate...
