About the Item
Porcelain picture plate with a finely painted polychrome veduta:
The plate shows a view of the Vienna Hofburg, the 'Leopoldinischer Trakt', Leopoldine Wing, with the Ceremonial Apartments and the outer 'Burgplatz', Castle Square, seen from the glacis, with figures. The Viennese bourgeoisie
used to promenade on the bastions and the glacis, an undeveloped green space in front of the city wall.
The ground of the groove painted in sand colour with gold edges, with a gold-painted vine leaf border in between.
The wall has a basket-weave openwork flag highlighted in gold and a gold edge.
Inscription in gold on the reverse: ‘K.k. Hofburg à Viènne’.
