About the Item
A rare and colorful early 19th century French pot d'aisance en terre vernisse or glazed terracotta chamber pot hand made in the South of France, circa early 1800s. Having a wide rim, tapered base and "D" handles, this antique French utilitarian pot, featuring a pale yellow glaze with splashes of green, served an important but humble purpose in the days before indoor plumbing. Chamber pots were often given as a wedding gift in France as they were supposed to bring luck to the newlyweds. Used alone or in a group, it's a beautifully decorative piece that will be a wonderful addition to any pottery collection. Perfect for use as a vase, utensil holder, or a planter.
