About the Item

A stunning tenmoku oatmeal glazed vintage studio pottery jug and cover by renowned artist Abdo Nagi (Yemeni-British, 1941-2001) and dating from around 1981. The jug stands raised on a narrow round flat unglazed base with a cylindrical shaped bulbous body narrowing slightly at the shoulder with a round raised top rim and integral shaped pouring spout with a wide flat loop handle applied to the side. The body has a ‘leopard spot’ design in dark brown tenmoku glazes on a lighter brown ground with brown tenmoku glazes applied around the upper rim and upper handle. A cover with similar partial glazed decoration sits neatly within a top unglazed recess. The jug is typically not marked however is fresh to the market and was acquired directly from the potter around 1981. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market and freshly offered having been purchased by the original previous owner directly from the maker, c.1981, at Hitchin College. In very good condition.
