About the Item

This is an antique Italian ceramic jug, likely from the Montelupo Fiorentino factory, dating to around the late 19th century with the coat-of-arms of the Medici Grand Dukes flanked by cornucopia is based on historical Italian pieces from around 1540. The jug features typical 18th-century Talavera colors of blue, orange, and green. The piece is earthenware coated with enamel and then glazed, a process popular since the Italian Renaissance and the Victorian era. Such items were made in various regions of Italy, with famous centers including Deruta and Florence. The bold, sketchily drawn designs are characteristic of the vivacious polychrome pictorial style developed in Talavera. It has a beautiful patina covering the entire object, with a break on the spout. The vase features a traditional majolica style with blue and orange/yellow decoration. It is made of textured earthenware with a glossy finish.
